May already?!

It's like ticking off your life newsletter by newsletter.

I'll not keep you this time. It's always a quiet time of year for the players. We had a lovely play read last month. We read Two Into One by Ray Cooney. An absolutely mad affair with all the nonsense, mayhem, mistaken identities and slapstick you'd expect. It was such a nice day we figured we'd read it in the garden so some of our intrepid members went of in search of an outside. Turns out we were reading in the smokers lean-to out the back. Luckily there weren't too many smokers about. It was an incredibly complicated play with three revolving sets to tackle and non-stop action. It was exhausting just to read. As usual preceding the read-through was a glorious Rose and Crown Sunday lunch finished of with a silky, creamy and slightly tart and very scrummy strawberry cheesecake (for me at least). All very civilised and a little bit decadent. So having spent a very pleasant afternoon in the smoker's lean-to we wended our way home and passing by the front of the pub I spied people in a garden drinking and enjoying the sunshine. A beer garden! Now, I am a man and not well known for my observational skills (some would say they are right up there with my diplomatic and multi-tasking skills) but even I thought I might have noticed it before. In my defense I have only been driving past the Rose and Crown for 20 years or so so it's not that unreasonable that I've not noticed it before. Is it? Really? Anyway, we're doing it all again this Sunday. So far there is a group of 10 of us going to the R&C for Sunday lunch at 12:30 (for 12:45). If you'd like to join us just phone the Rose and Crown and see if they can add you to the Castle Players table. It'll be lovely to see you.Of course you don't have to come to lunch to join in the read-through you can just come along anyway. we start at 2:30. Other things coming up... On Sunday 11th June at 6pm in the Village Hall we'll be reading the eagerly anticipated Cinderella. It must be a bit nerve-wracking for Linsey, who's spent a good while writing it, to put it out there for people to read for the first time. The lovely thing about it though is I'm sure she'll have left enough space for it to develop during rehearsal. The auditions for it will be on July 16th. I'll talk more about that nearer the time. On the 17th June is the Village Fayre. That should be a fun do so tell all your friends and come along to support the Village. Castle Players will be up to something there if you want to join in with us - and I really hope you do - please do come along. We think it will also be nice if we can get a group together to spend a splendid summer evening on Brownsea with a picnic and a bottle of bubbly or two. Oh, and to watch BOAT's As You Like It too. I knew there was something else. Tickets are on sale now for the One Act plays, which is what we'll be reading this Sunday. There must be some form of audition for them at some point. Anyway, get your tickets now; only £12 for two plays and supper. Got to be worth it and you get out of doing the washing up for a night. That's all this time. Hope to see you Sunday or if not then at one of the other events we have going on. You can find details of all the bits and bobs below. Take care, Have Fun! Chairman Steve
